Karate Kid + Romance + Acid Trip = Fancie
This is a love story.
More beautiful than any Disney tale, more intense than any film score, this is a new kind of romance (this is the kind that lasts). Meet Fancie, one of the most innovative bands in Sacramento and easily the craziest. Part modern day TLC (but with self preservation ) part Zappa and part neurotic nightmare, Fancie is the culmination of head mastermind Elizabeth Wood (lead singer, casio, and guitar), Katelyn Reeves (trumpet, vocals, live performance art, casio, heavy bass), Genie Masterflash (strange sounds and drums), and Jocelyn Noir (guitar, vocals, live performance art, and drums). The members (also part of Jocelyn's band, Alas, Alak, Alaska) have teamed up to create music that can hardly be confined to one sub-genre. Fancie somehow rallys every type of genre together to create a pool of triumphant 80's, new wave, hip-hop,electro, "Rocky-esque" mystic music that leaves you baffled. See a live show and you will be floored with their stunning stage presence ( complete with a full projection of some of the most random but fitting images from The Little Mermaid to church choirs to gymnastics to Reeves and Noir's live performance art ). Elizabeth Wood's vocal capacity is nothing short of frightening and her fearlessness on stage, inspiring. Fancie's sound is epic-their performance legendary-and sadly, last Friday night at Luigi's FunGarden may have been one of their last shows in Sacramento for a long while (due to Wood moving back to Berlin). Fancie tracks can still be heard online and the full album can be purchased on their website.
